VITA
"Carmen" came to our Taxpayer Action Day because she had not filed her taxes in a couple of years. After meeting with Carmen and learning more about her history, VITA volunteers confirmed her eligibility for the economic impact payments (stimulus checks) from 2020 and 2021. They also helped her claim the child tax credit for her three children. She found out that her 2021 refund was $15,220. Volunteers also prepared her 2022 tax return for a refund of $2,403. Carmen left the VITA tax site with $17,623 in tax refunds that she was owed.
Neighborhood Center
“I just wanted to give you an update since I graduated from your Certified Nursing Assistant program last September. I was offered a position at a hospital immediately after I received my license. I am proud to say that I am still employed and have become a major asset to the company. I have made bonds with coworkers and patients that are unmatched, and I absolutely love what I do. You two, your companies, and every member of your team that made the program possible have truly blessed me and changed my life.”
Coaching
“I am learning commitment towards something that aims to improve my situation, budgeting my money better, gaining credit repair assistance, having good companion/conversation, being a part of a wonderfully free service, and having that bank account match have all been successful things form as a result of participation in this program. With daycare being my highest bill, it is sometimes difficult knowing that I don't have that much money left over each month to truly act on all the financial advice I could take heed to had I been earning more money from a better job. However, my credit score has improved since starting the program, and I sincerely enjoy my calls with my coach. I feel like I am accomplishing my financial goals.”
