If you’re interested in helping schoolchildren learn to read, United Way Suncoast’s ReadingPals can use your help. The popular program, where volunteers read with pre-kindergarten and kindergarten students weekly, is back for its seventh year.
According to Cassandra Decker, UW’s community engagement senior specialist, there are several openings for volunteers at Blackburn and Tillman Elementary Schools in Palmetto in both the voluntary pre-kindergarten classes and kindergarten, as well. There are also openings for the new VPK class at Rogers Garden Elementary in Bradenton.
UW will also introduce a companion program called LearningPals where volunteers work on sight word recognition and reading fluency from kindergarten through third grade.
Please contact Cassandra at firstname.lastname@example.org or call 941-748-1313.
Orientation for ReadingPals is Wednesday, 9 a.m. to noon, at United Way, 4215 Concept Court, Lakewood Ranch. Orientation for LearningPals is Sept. 5, 9 a.m. to noon, at the same location.
