On February 10, 2018, nearly 100 volunteers gathered at Jackson Springs Community Center and Skate Park in Tampa to show some Valentine’s love for their community. At our “Voluntines” volunteer event, put on in partnership with Hillsborough County Parks and Recreation and Boards for Bros, individuals and families came together to give back to the community through a variety of fun activities.
- Assembling 300 Early Literacy Kits for children in the United Way Suncoast ReadingPals program. The kits were designed to engage children and their ReadingPals mentors to improve reading skills while having fun.
- Tackling a number of landscaping projects, from mulching to planting, to beautifying the park.
- Constructing 75 skateboards and tagging them with fun and inspirational messages for children. The skateboards were given to children in the community who want to learn to skate but don’t have a skateboard. The Jackson Springs Community Center features a skate park and volunteers offered lessons for the recipients of those boards (and adventurous event volunteers) after the project ended.
In addition to individual volunteers and their families, we also want to thank the wonderful volunteers from Tampa International Airport and PwC.
