More than 70 Tocqueville Society members and guests were treated to a special speaker series event on October 31st when Tampa Mayor Jane Castor joined us to talk about her vision for building a better Tampa by lifting up underserved communities and improving our neighborhoods.
To kick off the event, Tocqueville Society member Brian Deming shared information about United Way Suncoast’s work in our communities and attendees viewed a video that offered a firsthand look at the work that’s being done at the Sulphur Springs Resource Center and how it’s impacting residents of that Tampa neighborhood.
Mayor Castor talked transportation, infrastructure, housing, jobs – and shared her view that community investments need to recognize the diversity and unique needs that are characteristic of Tampa’s neighborhoods and be targeted to meet those different needs.
She also reflected on her years in law enforcement and how that experience allowed her to see the positive effect that United Way Suncoast has on children and families across our community.
Special thanks to Tocqueville Society member Brian Deming for serving as our event host. Go here to see photos from the event. For additional information about the Tocqueville Society Speaker series, contact:
