Letter from Suzanne

Dear Friends of United Way Suncoast,

It has been an honor and a privilege to serve as CEO of United Way Suncoast over the past five years and it is with a mix of feelings that I assume a new role within the United Way network as U.S. President, United Way Worldwide later this summer. I will forever be grateful for the incredible people I have had the opportunity to work with and the experiences I have had leading United Way Suncoast. Our staff, volunteers, donors and our corporate and community partnerships are among the best in the country, and I can’t help but feel that my appointment to this national role is testament to the scope and scale of United Way Suncoast’s overall reputation.

As I reflect on my time here, there is much for all of us to be proud of. Over the past several years, our Tocqueville Society has flourished and grown, and it just keeps getting stronger thanks to all of you. This past year we welcomed an impressive number of new members to an already incredible group of community leaders! And because of your growing generosity we have advanced our impact in the community. For that, I will always be grateful.

With your support, our early learning work continues to grow through our participation in multiple Campaigns for Grade Level Reading which are focused on ensuring all children have access to the supports they need to be able to meet key literacy milestones. We’re building stronger communities one child at a time and your commitment has supported those efforts.

While much has been accomplished, there is still much work to be done and United Way Suncoast is poised to make an even greater impact in our communities in the coming months. With your help, we will soon expand our Campbell Park Family Resource Center by moving into a wonderful new shared space with John Hopkins Middle School in south St. Petersburg. This move opens the door to new opportunities by allowing us to bring in even more resources and create strong partnerships to serve the children and families of Campbell Park in the most holistic way. The ongoing support of dedicated volunteers and donors like you inspires us to take bold steps to fulfill our mission in the community and you’ll soon hear more about this exciting project. Thank you for being part of our journey as we embark on this new opportunity.

In closing, I hope you’ll accept my personal thanks for your dedication and advocacy over these past five years. I have wonderful memories of the warm welcome I received when I first arrived in Florida and I am grateful for your friendship and the support that you’ve given me personally these past years.

I have always said that the best part of my job is the people I get to work with, and I thank you for being one of those people. It has been an honor to serve in this role and I look forward to assisting United Way Suncoast in any way possible from my new role. Fortunately, Tampa will continue to be my home base for the next two years and United Way Suncoast will be my hometown United Way, so I look forward to continuing to participate in community events when I am here. Thank you once again. I appreciate your kindness and good wishes more than I can say.

Please stay in touch.

All my best,

Suzanne McCormick
