Expert Tips and Strategies for Effective Advocacy

2020 is an election year in the middle of a pandemic. We have seen how quickly decisions that affect all our lives and standards of living can be made at national, state, and local levels. Everyone has something that they value, whatever your politics, this session is designed to hear from professionals in the field of advocacy. Hear about how they try to effect change for their clients, stories of impact, and best practices in championing any cause, and how you can become an advocate yourself.

  • What makes an effective advocate?
  • What does advocacy look like in 2020?
  • Is virtual advocacy effective?
  • What tools do professional advocates use?
  • Where do you find issue-specific research?
  • How can I track legislation that may impact my cause?
  • How do I champion issues that may not directly affect me?
  • In your career, what have you seen as effective advocacy?
  • What has stood out? What are some strategies or communication to avoid?
  • How do I get a meeting with an elected official? What is essential in getting my message across?
  • Besides Tallahassee or elected officials, how do you work with nonprofits and local groups to a champion cause?

Advocacy 101

Did you know that 2020 is the 100th Anniversary of the 19th Amendment that gave women the right to vote?

We are living in truly unprecedented times and it can be challenging to know where and how to advocate for your values. One great way to do so, is to use your voice to make your 2020 vote count!

Please join us to learn how to use your voice to help SHAPE public policy to best reflect your values. We will provide helpful information on how to get to know the platforms of candidates and those of the already elected officials. This information can also help you engage even more with your local communities.

We will also celebrate 2020 as the 100th year anniversary of the women’s right to vote. Your attendance will help recognize and honor the work of so many before us by making your voice count now and in the future!

Your voice matters and we hope you will join Women United for a virtual Lunch N’ Learn at Advocacy 101 moderated by Natalie King of RSA Consulting with panelists to be announced where you will learn how to further amplify your voice! King will overview how you can use your voice to advocate for the issues you find important as well as provide an overview of the United Way Suncoast legislative priorities including early learning, youth success, and financial stability for children and families across our community.
