2019 Onboard: Train to Serve on a Nonprofit Board

We’re proud to announce the return of Onboard, back by popular demand! Join a community of young leaders who want to make an impact in our community through serving on a nonprofit board.

This summer we’re introducing a 1-day learning “boot camp” to take place on Friday, June 21 in downtown Tampa from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Deadline to apply is June 7, 2019. Class size is limited. (OnBoard will be offered again in late summer 2019 in the traditional 5-week format.)

This course will give you the foundation needed to not only find the best board fit to match your personal passions, but provide you with the knowledge and tools to be highly effective in your new board role.

What makes this course different?

In addition to receiving a certificate of completion from United Way Suncoast, you’ll receive an in-depth overview of our local nonprofit community AND be connected with trusted nonprofits who are actively seeking new volunteer leadership for their boards and committees.  You’ll also be connected with past OnBoard alumni to continue building community connections.

ALICE Community Report

4/8/2019
8:30AM-10:00AM

State College of Florida
Lakewood Ranch Campus, Bldg 125
7131 Professional Pkway E
Sarasota, FL 34240

You’re invited to a presentation on the newly released 2018 ALICE Report presented by United Way Suncoast and Women United

43% of households in our region struggle to pay for basic needs such as housing, child care, food, transportation, health care, and technology. We call this population ALICE. ALICE is an acronym for Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed.

They are households earning above the poverty line but not enough to cover the most basic of needs like food and housing. Increases in everything from child care to health care continue to plague a family’s ability to save or prepare for unexpected financial setbacks, even when working a 40-hour-a-week job.

Why attend?

The ALICE Report is important because it helps create a shared understanding of the economic challenge across the nonprofit, government and business communities and inspires us all to work on issues that are holding people in our communities back. The ALICE Report shows us that, although economic recovery is happening in our community, it’s not happening equally for everyone.
