Campaign Coordinator Spotlight – Chuck Warrington

The City of Clearwater and United Way Suncoast have partnered together for more than a decade, providing help and hope to our communities. An integral part of this relationship is Campaign Coordinator Chuck Warrington.

Chuck has proudly served the City of Clearwater since 1992 as an employee of Clearwater Gas System (CGS), an enterprise utility of the City of Clearwater that provides natural and propane gas to residential and commercial customers. In his role as Gas System Director, he’s seen the utility grow to the 4th largest municipally-owned gas system in Florida, serving more than 31,000 customers across 20 cities in three counties.

Throughout his career, Chuck has been a strong supporter and advocate for United Way.  He’s been a driving force behind their many years of successful workplace campaigns, often serving as Chair of the city’s United Way committee. He doesn’t just talk the talk; he also walks the walk. He served on the United Way Suncoast Campaign Cabinet and, as a long-time leadership donor, encourages other city executives to join him. Chuck doesn’t hesitate to join in campaign activities like getting in the dunk tank at their annual health fair.

When asked why he is so committed to United Way, he responds, “United Way provides the best platform to help the most people in our community. It assures that the needs of the community are covered to the greatest extent possible and that the Strategic Community Partners are monitored and achieve desired results. I feel good and secure that my resources are used effectively.”

Even as he prepares for retirement, Chuck once again oversaw this year’s campaign with the assistance of Campaign Chairs Tony Magganas and Jessica Caballero-Ashmeade. This dream team helped raise nearly $60,000 through pledges and a variety of fun campaign events like Stick it to Management, Water Bucket Drop on Supervisors, You’ve Been Gassed (anonymous office decorating) by Gassy Goblins, and the ever-popular Dunk Tank. Additionally, $3,000 came from a basket raffle and the corporate gift was doubled this year.

City employees also support UWS through volunteering in the annual Week of Caring and participating as Loaned Executives.

We are grateful for dedicated coordinators like Chuck, Tony and Jessica and wish Chuck a long, happy retirement.
