Brand Stand Creates Bonding Moments

Comfort came through the Zoom.

During United Way Suncoast’s Women United Leadership Series seminar on May 14, one of the participants grew emotional as she discussed the challenges of trying to meet the perceived lofty standards set by coworkers and fellow moms. The office conversations of success and the never-ending joyful photos on social media can prove overwhelming.

But the other women in the breakout room immediately offered empathy and support. The distant nature of a normal video conference dissipated. A moment of bonding and a spirit of uplift emerged.

The discussion proved to be just one of many inspiring moments during “Brand Stand,” presented by GEICO. UWS gathered more than 60 women from across its five-county region for a 90-minute discussion guided by livingHR’s Amanda Herring. Herring set the tone at the beginning.

“As professionals, the question is what do we stand for beyond making money?” Herring explained. “As whole people, what are we willing to stand up for?”

In breakout rooms, participants opened up and shared their views on a range of topics: parenting, mental health, racism, bullying. Generally speaking, the women aligned on wanting to take on these challenges and bring about improvement, but varied on the best approach. Do you dive in head first or move in incremental ways?
Herring noted that a high effort does not always fit into a person’s “season of life,” and suggested tailoring efforts to individual outlooks.

In the end, the participants spoke of the positive vibes that emanated from the session and how the uplift would carry them through the day. LinkedIn connection requests immediately rose and a longing for more leadership events was palpable.
