United Way Suncoast salutes longtime donor and supporter Alex Sink for her recent induction into the Hillsborough County Women’s Hall of Fame.
Alex served four years as the second Chief Financial Officer for the State of Florida and has made tremendous strides for the community and state through her work with numerous organizations including United Way Suncoast, Florida Next, and Tampa Bay Wave.
The Hillsborough County Commission on the Status of Women honored Sink and fellow Class of 2024 Hall of Fame inductee Marsha Passmore during a special luncheon on March 20.
A Historic Helper
Alex traces her involvement with United Way back to 1970, and continues to be an engaged board member today.
Her philanthropic work has been honored by The Tampa Bay Lightning, the Greater Tampa Chamber of Commerce (now the Greater Tampa Bay Chamber of Commerce), Junior Achievement, Girl Scouts of West Central Florida, Florida Chamber of Commerce, Tampa Bay Business Hall of Fame and the Bob Graham Center For Public Service.
“I can’t tell you what an incredible honor this is, especially when I look at the previous recipients of this award since 2011,” Sink told the Hillsborough County Commission earlier this month. “Thanks to the Commission on the Status of Women for establishing this award to recognize just a few of the hundreds of thousands of women in this county who participate and contribute.”
She honors us
Passmore, Alex’s fellow inductee, has dedicated her life to service, most notably working with the Business & Professional Women’s Club and serving on the Plant City Commission.
The Hillsborough County Women’s Hall of Fame was created in 2011 by the Commission on the Status of Women. The Women’s Hall of Fame honors women who, through their outstanding lives and efforts, have made significant contributions to the improvement of life for women and all residents of Hillsborough County.
We’re thrilled to see Alex receive this honor and pleased that she continues to find time to honor United Way Suncoast. She’s fond of saying if United Way didn’t exist we would have to create. We couldn’t agree more.
