United Way Names Most Generous Workplaces

SARASOTA — United Way Suncoast has announced its 2017 Most Generous Workplaces in Sarasota County, determined by the contributions by the companies and their employees to and through United Way Suncoast during the previous fiscal year.

The Top 25 most generous workplaces in Sarasota County made $1.5 million in monetary and in-kind contributions, United Way Suncoast said.

“The core of United Way is that each and every person has the ability to contribute to community change,” said Suzanne McCormick, CEO of United Way Suncoast. “Our donors give of their time and resources to whatever extent they are able and collectively make a huge, positive impact across the region.”

Each of the organizations has incorporated philanthropy into its business culture, United Way Suncoast said. For example, Northern Trust, which has chosen United Way as its philanthropic partner for more than 80 years, has a long-standing corporate commitment to making a positive impact in the communities in which it operates. In addition to its fundraising campaign, Northern Trust gives its employees a day off to participate in the annual Day of Caring volunteer event.

“Northern Trust is a shining example of how companies, their employees and non-profits can work together to make our neighborhoods even better places to live,” said Mireya Eavey, Sarasota and DeSoto area president of United Way Suncoast.

“United Way is the only organization endorsed and promoted to our more than 9,000 U.S. Northern Trust employees in the greater Sarasota area and across the country,” said Paul G. Hudson, market leader and senior managing director with Northern Trust.

The top 100 organizations in the Suncoast region of DeSoto, Hillsborough, Manatee, Pinellas and Sarasota counties contributed $16.6 million to help local communities through United Way Suncoast-led and supported programs, the organization said, up from last year’s total of $11 million.
