Operation Graduate students got a helping hand recently in preparing for college and career thanks to the generosity of Ceridian. David Ostrowski, manager, professional services, was planning a manager’s conference with employees from across the U.S. and Canada. Looking for a way the team could give back to the community, he reached out to United Way Suncoast.
Together, they decided the team would work with students in the Operation Graduate program. Operation Graduate focuses on increasing the number of students who graduate from high school on-time. The program targets two groups of students. One takes credit recovery classes, so they can graduate with their peers; the other group is introduced to college and work experiences.
Ceridian employees met with the college/career students at the Ceridian campus. The students were able to get advice on setting goals and ways to achieve them. They also received valuable tips on preparing a resume and how to interview for a job. In addition to donating employee time, Ceridian also donated gift cards so that each student could shop for professional attire.
Working with JCPenney at Westfield Countryside Mall, Ceridian provided a $100 gift card for each student along with makeovers, hair styling and samples from Sephora. And, thanks to General Manager Kevin Jones, students received extra discounts on their purchases, increasing the purchasing power of their gift cards. Students received assistance on their shopping excursion, including tips on dressing professionally, from volunteers from United Way Suncoast. After a lunch outing, the group left with smiles and a newfound confidence in themselves, ready to conquer the world.
