Summary:          The Manager/Senior Manager, Grant Accounting is responsible for all aspects of the accounting for various government, corporate and private foundation grants, and restricted contributions supporting United Way Suncoast. This includes working collaboratively across the organization to ensure all grant and restricted funds are properly spent, accounted for, and reported.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

1. Review grant general ledgers for allowable expenses, post grant revenue journal entries, and update grant revenue schedules on a monthly basis.

2. Prepare and submit grant invoices, including any required documentation, to funders on a monthly basis and follow up on outstanding grant payments receivable.

3. Prepare and file required grant budget reports as needed. Maintain a schedule of all grant reporting requirements for the organization and work with program managers to ensure all reporting requirements are met on a timely basis.

4. Monitor budget categories, spending rates and time restrictions to ensure all grants are on track to meet budgeted spending requirements. Proactively communicate with program staff and others when grant expenses are not on track to meet budget requirements.

5. Work collaboratively with the Director, Grants Writer and other staff members in Community Impact and Resource Development to create grant budgets for grant applications.

6. Work closely with the Director, Grants Writer to create, execute, and review organization-wide grant management policies and procedures.

7. Review restricted revenue reports in the Andar system on a monthly basis.

8. Track restricted revenue uses and release temporarily restricted revenue on a monthly basis.

9. Review and approve all invoices and other AP expense coding on a weekly basis.

10. Complete the following monthly closing tasks:
a.  Prepare and post payroll journal entries
b.  Prepare and post benefits journal entries
c.  Run monthly employee cost allocations in the MIP system

Supervisory Responsibilities: None. May provide staff training and guidance as required.

Education and/or Experience:
• Bachelor’s degree from four-year college or university in accounting or related financial field; minimum 5 – 7 years of related experience.
• Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles; fund accounting, auditing, fiscal management; automated accounting systems and data processing inter relationships.
• Ability to effectively apply accounting and auditing techniques and procedures in the work performed; to prepare clear, complete and concise reports; to work on concurrent assignments and to meet deadlines; to communicate effectively orally and in writing. Strong work ethic, commitment to accuracy and a team player.

Interpersonal Skills:
• Experience working in collaborative environments and cross functionally to achieve goals. Excellent communication and problem solving skills.
• Establish and maintain cooperative relationships with those contacted in the course of work.

Mathematical Skills:
• Requires strong mathematical skills of addition, subtraction, multiplication and division; ability to compute rate, ratio, percent and draw and interpret graphs; and advanced mathematical skills as described in accounting responsibilities.

Reasoning Ability:
• Ability to solve routine problems within standardized policies and procedures. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, or schedule form. Requires independent initiative under both specific and general supervision.

Computer Skills:
• Requires intermediate to advanced knowledge and application of word processing, spreadsheet and presentation computer software in P.C. environment. Intermediate knowledge of databases and email software programs. Experience with general ledger software.

Other Skills and Abilities:
• Highly organized and attention to detail. Ability to maintain confidential information is critical to this position. Ability to write letters in a professional manner.
• Strong project management, process improvement, or other applicable experience.
• Problem-solver and self-starter who initiates solutions; collaborates and negotiates effectively with team members, partners, and stakeholders.

Licenses: Valid Florida Driver’s License

Other Qualifications: Ability to travel to DeSoto, Hillsborough, Pinellas, Manatee, and Sarasota counties and other offsite locations as required.
